DivX3 codec guides

DivX3 is the most well-known derivate of the Microsoft MPEG-4 v3 codecs. It compresses better than MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 and it's a lot more flexible since it bases on the AVI architecture. It allows you to select almost any soundformat, including AC3 sound. DivX is essentially a PC playback format, there's no hardware DivX players and if you want to output DivX to your TV you will need a GFX card with an included TV-output. Hardware MPEG-2 accelerators like the DXR3 or Hollywood Plus can't be used to play DivX and output it to your TV (though the new Sigma X-card can). Most DivX take 1-2CDs depending on the bitrate.

Only very experienced rippers should follow the "Nandub: SBC encoding guide".
