This encoder is lightning fast, however it has one severe drawback: it is not for free... If you're willing to spend that kind of money (the Lite version is $250 alone and that version is not enough to do SVCD and miniDVD since it doesn't support the kind of bitrate settings we need, and the SP version is $1950) or if you are willing to get the program by other means then this is for you..

CCE does not support 3:2 pulldown, but using pulldown.exe it's still possible to encode at 23.976fps and later on convert the movie to 29.97. If you're encoding an NTSC movie at 23.976fps you'll have to do step 6b.

Important note: You cannot use CCE 2.62 to follow this guide as it refuses to open VirtualDub frameserver files (I know there's some tricks.. but they don't work with many configurations so I don't mention them). But it works just fine on CCE 2.50 (yes, also on AMD processors).

Step 1: Ripping

DVD2AVI requires that the VOBs have been prepared, e.g. do not contain additional studio logos, FBI warnings and such so SmartRipper is the ideal choice since it does IFO parsing.

Step 2: Create a DVD2AVI project

Step 3: Audio decoding

In order to get a direct AC3 to MP3 conversion in the highest possible quality using both azid and lame you can use either BeSweet or HeadAC3he.

Step 4: IVTC (if needed)

This step allows us to encode at the more space economic 23.976fps instead of the regular 29.97fps NTSC.

Step 5: Calculating bitrate

Step 8: Splitting to CDs

8a) Demuxing
8b) Pulldown (if required)

Step 9: Burn

There are 3 options how to burn an (S)VCD, starting with Nero and going over to more complex tools which also allow you to create menus, chapters, etc.
